Think About It: Ha Ha (Alo)ha

April is National Humor Month, which is a joke… just kidding. No seriously, this month really is National Humor Month, and surely it's a good time to remind people here to laugh, giggle, and smile a little more. Oh, and stop calling me "surely". (meow) Anyway, with all that's going on nationally, internationally, and even locally on many official fronts, with the hustle and bustle of daily life and the high cost of living here, sometimes you really must seek out outlets for laughter and joy.

I hear people sometimes lament the gradual or suspected loss of the aloha spirit here, people always refer to the past as the good old days, which is really not always the case depending on how far back you want to go… but I wonder if what we do have is the sense that we've lost some of our innate playfulness and innocence locally as we deal with a fractured national political world, a complex issue of resource allocation and money concerns, unnecessary false bomb alerts, and a general uncertainty about where things are headed on a number of fronts.

So as we move into the spring and summer, remember how nice everyone seemed to be acting in mid-December? We don't really need a calendar date for us to be more lighthearted, aware, and caring, do we? We really can do it again, and do it often and sincerely. It's in our souls, we just need to let in the light and lighten up. So laugh it up, watch a funny movie or a sitcom, listen to comedic geniuses or spend more time with up, happy, and funny people. If aloha truly means love, compassion, kindness and grace, well, then that's something we all need to smile about more often for therapeutic reasons and our sanity. Think about it…
