MOKULEIA,OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

A pedestrian was killed in a crash near the Dillingham Airfield late Wednesday, according to Honolulu police.

Police said at around 11:15 p.m., a 44-year-old man was driving his BMW eastbound on Farrington Highway when he struck the man who was sitting on the road.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials did not say why he was on the road.

An investigation is ongoing, but authorities say it does not appear that the driver was drunk or speeding.

This was the 45th traffic death of the year compared to 29 the same time last year.

Farrington Highway was closed earlier, but it has since reopened.
