HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Emergency officials say they're tracking Hurricane Olivia closely and may activate operations soon if the threat becomes serious.

And they're hoping the majority of people are already prepared after previous storms this season, including Lane and Hector.

At the Be Ready store in Waipio, employees says some people are taking preparedness seriously, and stocking up for the season and beyond.

"I think because of the scare that we've had, it's more likely that people are going to be more into wanting to prepare this time instead of seeing the rush and being stuck in line and having to worry about all these things," said Pono Cabacungan, vice president of operations for Asia-Pacific.

Cabacungan says customers have been pre-ordering food, water, and generators for their emergency kits.

"All our water containers, gone. All the food, gone. The generators, gone. The cots, gone," he said. "We're not even done with the emergency season yet. we're halfway through."

Luke Myers, executive officer of the Hawaii Emergency Management Agency, said as Olivia nears the state will kick prep and planning into high gear.

He added that residents should be prepared for tropical storm conditions, including rain and wind.

"We don't want people to focus specifically on the hurricane, but think about the impacts to you and your family," he said.
