Think About It: Food Favors

So you bought too much stuff in preparation for Hurricane Lane. Well, good on you for being well-prepared. Rather than suffer from the indignity of an over-stuffed pantry or ponder taking the goods back to the store, how about simply dropping off those non-perishable food items at your local foodbank? Peanut butter, crackers, Spam, canned tuna, all items that are surely needed by those helping out people in need.

Canned vegetables, canned meat or canned fruit, apple sauce, cooking oil, granola bars, nuts, rice, stew, chili, soup- lots of things you might actually be able to do without but all of which will surely find a happy home in someone's stomach through the foodbank. Not only would you be clearing out your shelves and answering the what-am-I-gonna-do-with-all-of-this stuff question, but you‘d actually be making a big difference locally.

So while the winds of Lane and other hurricanes miss us, you can help augment some vital winds of change by taking stock of what you've got in stock and then simply drop the cans and non-perishable items off at the food bank. You can also drop off your goods at the Foodbank's convenient year-round collection sites at Ruby Tuesdays and certain NAPA locations. Check the Hawaii Foodbank website. And if you have to stock up again this summer, fall or next year- so be it.  You can help others today. Think about it…
