Aloha Stadium, Stan Sheriff Center not allowing bags into events

(Honolulu-AP) -- Hawaii stadiums are beefing up security following last week's terrorist attacks on New York and Washington. Officials at Aloha Stadium say bags won't be allowed into the facility during sporting events.

University of Hawaii officials are encouraging fans to leave large bags at home when attending events at the Stan Sheriff Center. All large bags will be subject to search, and that could mean delays for getting into the arena. Similar protections are being put in place at other stadiums across the country.

At Aloha Stadium, spokesman Les Keiter says women will be allowed to bring their purses. But Keiter warns that security officials may search those bags. T

he new security measures will be in place at Aloha Stadium for this weekend's high school football games. The University of Hawaii football team plays its first home game at Aloha Stadium September 29th against Rice.

The new security at UH will be in place at the Stan Sheriff Center for this weekend's women's volleyball matches against Santa Clara.
