Undated-AP -- Pole vaulter Stacy Dragila (drah-GEE'-lah) and shot putter John Godina (goh-DEE'-nuh) are the winners of the 2001 Jesse Owens Award as the top track and field athletes in the country. Dragila won the Olympic gold medal and set a new world outdoor record. Godina won the world indoor and outdoor titles and the U-S outdoor championship.

(New York-AP) -- Michael Strahan's pursuit of the N-F-L single season sack record of 22 has suffered a setback. The Giants defensive end had half a sack taken away from him after a review of the tape of Sunday's game with Oakland. That leaves him with 15 and a half with six games to go.

(New York-AP) -- Ozzie Smith, Andre Dawson and Frank Viola are among the first-timers on the Baseball Hall of Fame ballots that have been sent out. Voting will take place through December 31st, with the results announced January eighth.

(Pittsburgh-AP) -- Fired Pittsburgh Penguins coach Ivan Hlinka (hah-LIHNK'-ah) has hired two attorneys and is threatening to sue the team for breach of contract. He says the Penguins haven't paid him 800-thousand dollars he's owed on the three-year contract that runs through June 2003.

(Los Angeles-AP) -- The N-C-A-A has denied U-C-L-A's appeal to reinstate running back DeShaun Foster's eligibility ending the running back's college career. The nation's fifth leading rusher was suspended November 7 after reportedly driving for several weeks a sports utility vehicle owned by an actor-director.
