Wie Makes LPGA Debut

(Waikoloa-AP) -- Twelve-year-old Michelle Wie of Honolulu struggled to a 2-over 72 in her LPGA Tour debut yesterday on the Big Island.

Meanwhile, defending champion Lorie Kane shot a 63 to take the first-round lead in the season-opening Takefuji Classic. Wie -- the 5-foot-10 seventh grader -- had three birdies and five bogeys in surprisingly calm conditions on the oceanside Waikoloa Beach Resort course.

The youngest player to earn a spot in an LPGA Tour event through a Monday qualifier began play on the tenth tee. She birdied the eleventh hole but bogeyed the 14th, 15th and 16th holes. Wie played the front nine in even par, with two birdies and two bogeys.
