Wahine Fall In Final Minutes To No. 8 La Tech, 53-50

(Tulsa, Oklahoma-AP) -- Amber Obaze scored 16 points and made two big baskets in the closing minutes as eighth-ranked Louisiana Tech rallied to beat Hawaii 53-to-50 today in the championship of the Western Athletic Conference tournament.

Cheryl Ford scored 15 and Ayana Walker had 14 for the Lady Techsters, who picked up the automatic bid to the NCAA tournament by winning their 20th straight conference tournament game. Hawaii had lost by wide margins in the two regular-season meetings with the Lady Techsters, but made them work this time.

After falling behind 12-2 in the first half, Hawaii went on a 22-5 run and held a seven-point lead at halftime. The Wahine pushed the lead to nine points early in the second. It was a 41-to-34 lead with just under 12 minutes to play when Tech scored 11 straight points to surge ahead.

Christen Roper and Karena Greeny each had 12 points for the Wahine, and Janka Gabrielova had 11.
