The Bruin volleyball team is headed to town this week and they are not smiling. The guys from Westwood began last week ranked No. 1 in the nation. This week, they've fallen a spot to No. 2.
That's after they were soundly beaten in a 3 game sweep by the new No. 1, Pepperdine. The Bows, still holding at No. 3 with BYU and Penn State filling out the top 5.
In the Stan Sheriff Center on Tuesday, the guys in green were prepping for this weekend's showdown with UCLA, one of the marquis programs in collegiate men's volleyball.
When these 2 hook up, it's almost always a battle. But, the last time they met back in January, the Bruins swept Hawaii in 3 straight. Come Friday night, the Warriors are thinking payback.
"Well you know, UCLA is real good. So most of the time, I'd like to think that it brings out the best in us. They're gonna be ready to go. They're always a formidable opponent. Ever since we've been playing UCLA, I've noticed that they're always very deep. When someone's not playing well they always have someone to come in and do a job. They'll be strong. It's a great challenge and its an opportunity we look forward to every year," said coach Wilton.
For fans of Warrior volleyball, it just doesn't get any bigger than this. No. 2 UCLA and No. 3 Hawaii. A big match-up between 2 of the top programs in the country. Match 1 of a 2 match series, headed your way on Friday night, live on the 5 at 7.
