The volleyball Warriors will close up the regular season this weekend. And they'll do it, near the top in the national rankings.
Mike Wilton's crew is ending the 2002 regular season on a high note. Last weekend the Bows took 2 matches from then No. 2 UCLA. On Monday, outside hitter Costas Theocharidis was named national player of the week.
On Tuesday, the Bows moved up a notch in the latest AVCA national poll. The Bows and UCLA flip-flop behind No. 1 Pepperdine. The Bows, now right there at No. 2 in the country. UCLA falls to third, with BYU and Penn State going 4 and 5.
Up next for the volleyball Warriors is No. 4 BYU and the Cougars...they can play some volleyball. BYU has won 2 of the last 3 national titles and they're currently 4th in the MPSF standings. Meaning, as far a playoff positions go, they have everything to gain in these 2 matches against Hawaii.
For the Bows, the goal is simple. Win one of the two against BYU and the Bows lock up the 2 seed in the MPSF tournament.
It's all coming your way this weekend. A two match series between No. 2 Hawaii and No. 4 BYU. The Bows have been fighting for playoff position all season long and the fight is still not over. You can catch both matches live on K5 the home team. The first one headed your way Friday night at 7.
