The Warrior volleyball team is closing in on their first national championship title. At State College, PA, Hawaii beat the hometown favorite, Penn state on Thursday, to earn a spot opposite Pepperdine in the national final.
The Bows are 0 and 3 against the Waves this season. But head coach Mike Wilton says, don't count his team out just yet. If the Bows put it together and play their best volleyball, the guys in green, just might come home with a national championship in tow.
Wilton says, by phone from Penn State, "They're a really good team, you know. We played them twice in March and it was a long, tough four game loss, both nights. But we were beaten fairly decisive, statistically, by them. The last time we played them, last Sunday night in the MPSF final, they won in four, but statistically the match was real close. So we're making good progress. We just need to be a little steadier against that team."
