(Honolulu-AP) -- Former University of Hawaii quarterback Nick Rolovich is expected to receive a one-year free agent contract from the Denver Broncos. The Honolulu Advertiser reported today that Hawaii coach June Jones spoke with Denver coach Mike Shanahan and was told Rolovich was expected to receive a contract.
Rolovich worked out for the Broncos at a minicamp last weekend and was invited to the next camp. Rolovich says he'll take whatever he gets and all he wants is a chance. Jones, a former NFL quarterback and coach, has known Shanahan for nearly 25 years and helped arrange a tryout for Rolovich with the Broncos.
Rolovich also was on all the highlight tapes of receiver Ashley Lelie, who was drafted in the first round by the Broncos. Rolovich passed for 3,361 yards and 34 touchdowns last season but was not selected in the NFL draft. The six-foot-one, 198-pound Rolovich started last season as Hawaii's third-string quarterback, but finished going 8-1 as a starter and breaking 19 school passing records.
