(Honolulu-AP) -- The fourth-ranked University of Hawaii women's volleyball team opened its season last night with a quick three-game victory over Number Nine Ohio State. Kim Willoughby had 18 kills for Hawaii as the Wahine stopped the Buckeyes 30-24, 30-24, 30-23 at the Hawaiian Airlines Wahine Classic at the Stan Sheriff Center.
Lauren Duggins had ten kills for Hawaii, while teammate Lily Kahumoku, who sat out last season, followed with seven. Stacey Gordon led Ohio State with 13 kills.
In an earlier match, Number Eleven UCLA defeated Number 21 Colorado 30-15, 30-28, 26-30, 30-27. The round-robin tournament continues today with Colorado playing Ohio State. Hawaii faces Colorado tomorrow and UCLA on Monday.
