(Honolulu-AP) -- The University of Hawaii defeated Eastern Illinois 61-36 last night at Aloha Stadium in the football season opener for both teams. UH quarterback Timmy Chang, who sat out most of last season with a wrist injury, returned to action, throwing for 374 yards and three touchdowns. He was 19-of-30, including scoring passes of 13, 59 and 19 yards.
The Warriors' defense also pitched in, scoring twice on interception returns. Hawaii built its biggest lead to 47-16 by scoring on its first two possessions of the third quarter. For the night, Hawaii's offense racked up 580 yards, including 453 in the air.
