Some bad news for the warrior football team as it prepares for Saturday's game at Boise State. Head coach June Jones calls the Boise State Broncos the best team that Hawaii will face so far this season. And that's not a good team to have up next when your top rusher is on the shelf.
The coach said today that sophomore Mike Bass will probably not play against Boise State this weekend. The 5'6" speed back has a partially torn ligament in his right knee. If Bass is a no go, junior John West will split time at tailback with senior Thero Mitchell. Bass leads Hawaii with 206 rushing yards in four games, he's also Hawaii's top punt returner.
The Warriors get a shot at payback this weekend against the Broncos. Last season Hawaii finished the year winning eight of it's last nine games, that one loss came against Boise State.
The Warriors and Broncos hook up this week in a test of wills. They are the top two teams in the WAC as far as points per game. They are one and three in giving up the least points per game. It'll be the 5th game of the Hawaii season and already the team's third road swing.
Boise State is a team that can bring it, the Broncos were picked by the WAC media as the pre-season conference favorite. Especially when the temperature at home at night closes in on freezing.
